Moscow University of Finance and Law MFUA, MITU-MASI and Rosselkhozbank present a magnificent collection of African art from the 19th and 20th centuries, enlivening the center of Moscow City with cultural motifs from the distant continent.
African traditions have inspired artists around the world for centuries. Traces of this inspiration are especially noticeable in such movements of 20th-century European art as Cubism, Fauvism and Expressionism.
The collection, assembled by the Science, Technology, Art Museum Complex of the Moscow University of Law and Industry-MASI, demonstrates a deep cultural heritage, reflecting the diversity of ethnic groups from Gabon to Zambia. The exhibited items include both ritual masks and characteristic figurines.
Masks, which play a central role in African culture, symbolize spiritual practices, rituals, and social connections. Sculptures, often depicting animals and deities, are a reflection of deeply rooted beliefs and traditions.
The craftsmanship of the pieces is demonstrated in the materials used, from wood and terracotta to metal, complemented by decorative shells, beads and other unique elements.
