In Moscow’s business district, sport is rarely discussed as a learning process. The area is accustomed to speed, negotiations, and vertical skylines of glass and steel. However, on January 9 this logic will be broken: an open curling training session will take place in the pedestrian zone of Moscow City — a sport where not strength or speed, but precision, calculation, and teamwork determine the outcome.
Curling as Part of the “Winter in Moscow” Project
The venue has become part of the seasonal “Winter in Moscow” program, yet in essence it goes beyond familiar urban activities. Curling is an intimate and intellectual discipline, and its appearance in a dense urban environment looks like a thoughtful experiment: sport as a form of dialogue, not competition for the sake of results.
Development of Public Spaces and a New Leisure Format
The city is consistently developing public spaces on the initiative of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, focusing not only on infrastructure but also on content. As Deputy Mayor Maksim Liksutov emphasizes, such projects allow residents not merely to watch sport from the sidelines, but to step directly into it — without memberships, barriers, or formal entry thresholds.
Masterclass Program and Training with a Professional Coach
The session will take place from 18:00 to 20:00 and will be led by Vadim Rayev — a Master of Sport and coach of the national curling team. The program is not about demonstrations, but about full immersion: an explanation of the rules and principles of the game, working with the stone, the basics of sweeping, player positioning logic, and an analysis of typical game situations. The practical part will conclude with a mini-game under the coach’s guidance.
Participation Terms and Registration
The format is aimed primarily at those who have never held a curling stone before. No special equipment is required; all gear is provided by the organizers. The only mandatory condition is advance registration: the number of participants is limited due to game rules and safety requirements.
Venue Operation After the Masterclass
After the masterclass, the venue will continue operating on a regular basis until the end of February. Daily game sessions lasting one and a half hours are planned, with technical breaks in between. The center is open from 10:00 to 21:30, and each game group is limited to a maximum of 10 people, ensuring ice quality and participant comfort.
Curling as Part of Contemporary Urban Culture
The appearance of curling in Moscow City is a clear example of how classic winter sports can exist beyond specialized arenas. In this case, sport becomes part of the urban fabric, and learning turns into a form of modern leisure, where attention, strategy, and precise movement matter more than loud grandstands.
