On August 18, Moscow announced the launch of an international competition for the architectural design of the central area (Plot 2) of the City-2 complex and its public spaces. The competition is organized by Capital Group, operated by CM International, and supported by the Moscow Architecture Committee.
What is the design?
Plot 2 is envisioned as the multi-story core of City-2:
-
The upper level will feature a landscaped terrace with approximately 2,700 square meters of water surface.
-
The lower level will house a shopping arcade, pedestrian crossings, and guest parking.
-
Everything will be connected into a single infrastructure system, with seamless pedestrian connections throughout the area; a coastal promenade will connect the north and south of the site.
-
Plot 2 includes a planned cultural center, a new focal point for the area.
Participants
Five architectural firms have been selected for the project: Wowhaus, A2M, KOSMOS Architects, Kokaistudios (referred to as Kokaistudious in some reports), and CLOU Architects. These teams will develop master plans for the central area of City 2 and the surrounding public spaces.
Deadline
Three months have been allocated for developing proposals; preliminary results are expected in November 2025.
Where will it be located?
City-2 is located in the Presnensky district, adjacent to the exhibition center and the Moscow-City International Business Center. The site is adjacent to major arterial routes: the Third Ring Road, Kutuzovsky Prospekt, Zvenigorod Quay, Bolshaya Doctrinas Street, and Bagrationa Street.
Why does this city need another "city"?
According to the city government and developers, City-2 will be a logical extension of the existing urban complex and a new chapter in the capital's development, with a focus on public space and a pedestrian-friendly environment. The project is expected to cover approximately 2 million square meters and will be located on the site of the former Kamushki residential complex.
