As part of the reconstruction of the Moscow-City interchange, four overpasses will be built. All work is scheduled for completion by the end of 2021. According to Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy, the project aims to ensure unimpeded traffic flow from the Third Ring Road toward the city's business center via the second Krasnogvardeisky Proezd.
The work package includes the installation of support structures, overpasses, utility lines, landscaping, and the laying of nearly 10 kilometers of roadway. Overpasses will be placed at four key locations:
-
Exit from the Northern bypass of Kutuzovsky Prospekt;
-
Exit from the third transport ring to the Northern alternate road;
-
Exit from Shelepikhinskaya embankment;
-
Left turn onto the Northern bypass.
To ensure a high level of safety, two underground pedestrian crossings will be built. The railway bridge will be extended by one span. Essentially, the new road interchanges will be located above the Smolensk line tracks. Modern construction technologies allow the work to be carried out without interrupting train service or even disrupting their schedules. The additional span is being built adjacent to the line, and installation is taking place during the longest time window in the train schedule.
The second phase of reconstruction and modernization is currently underway. The project will increase the capacity of the transport hub and improve accessibility to the capital's business center, Moscow City.
