In 2025, Moscow will open the renovated and redesigned Testovskaya station on the MCD-1 line. It will become a key component of the capital's commercial hub, connecting several strategically important destinations.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the news, noting that the station's first facilities are scheduled to open next year. The design focuses on accessibility, comfort, and connectivity with other modes of transportation. The first phase will see the opening of two passenger platforms and part of the South Concourse. Construction on these facilities is in its final stages: finishing touches, utility installation, and equipment commissioning are underway. The South Concourse is estimated to be 85% complete.
Next-Generation City Railway Station
The new transport hub will include:
-
Three platforms (two to open in 2025, the third in 2026);
-
Two concourses – south and north;
-
10 passenger elevators and 14 escalators;
-
Direct connections to Sheremetyevo Airport via the metro, MCD-1, MCD-4, MCC, and Aeroexpress.
The station's infrastructure is designed to meet modern urban transport standards, characterized by short transfer routes, barrier-free environment, and high-performance engineering systems.
Logistics and Access
The renovated station will serve as a transportation hub for the Presnensky, Khoroshevsky, Khoroshev-Mnevniki, Filevsky Park, and Dorogomilovo districts. The combined population of these districts is expected to exceed 500,000. For many residents, connecting to MCD-1 and MCD-4 will be a valuable alternative to crowded subways.
In addition, the station will provide direct access to Moscow's largest commercial and office complexes, including the Federation Building, the Empire Building, the OKO Tower, and the Neva Tower business district. The new station offers improved pedestrian access and transportation for commuters and tourists.
Work Plan to 2026
Phase II is scheduled for completion in 2026:
-
Construction of the third coastal platform,
-
Opening of the North Forecourt,
-
Expansion of transmission circuits on the MCD-4 and MCC lines.
When fully completed, Moscow City Station will become the capital's largest transport hub, combining urban and suburban routes as well as international connections via Aeroexpress.
Integration into the Megacity Strategy
The reconstruction of Testovskaya Station and its transformation into a modern Moscow city station is part of Moscow's long-term development strategy, "Metropolis." This strategy, encompassing the northwest area of the commercial center, includes infrastructure and urban development projects aimed at redistributing traffic flows and improving urban connectivity.
The station's design addresses not only current challenges but also future needs: it takes into account projected traffic loads, potential integration with other lines, and the prospects for digitalization of the transportation environment.
