Work is underway to build a pedestrian tunnel near Moscow-City. The tunnel will be located underground and connect several busy stations, including MCD-1 and MCD-4.
The Moscow Railway press service reports: "Last Saturday and Sunday, intensive preparations were underway for the construction of a tunnel adjacent to the Moscow-City station, which will allow the integration of MCD-1 and MCD-4 trains at the Testovskaya station. Special structures are located above the construction site, ensuring Lastochka trains will be able to operate unimpeded for the three months allocated for the project."

On January 21-22 of this year, at least 80 construction workers were hard at work near the Moscow-City railway. Specialists disconnected and relocated the overhead power line and dismantled part of the rail and sleeper grid above the tunnel under construction. A sheet pile wall consisting of several dozen piles was constructed, and a pair of bridge "packages" were installed. Following this stage, the main work began.
The 30-meter pedestrian "corridor" being built near Moscow City will connect the Testovskaya station of the Moscow Central Diameter 1 (MCD-1) and the northern vestibule of the Moscow Central Diameter 4 (MCD-4). Using the bridge, you can reach Proektiruyemy Proezd or the residential complex.
The platform will include a covered walkway. This will allow pedestrians to quickly access the Mezhdunarodnaya station from the residential complex and the Business Center. A similar integration is planned for the southern concourse.
Achievements today:
-
The Testovskaya station of the MCD-4 was provided with a pair of platforms with canopies along its entire length;
-
two vestibules (northern and southern) are being actively built;
-
Work is underway to provide the facilities with modern elevators and escalators, creating a modern barrier-free environment.
It's worth clarifying that the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) connect the capital with the surrounding Moscow region. In November 2019, service was opened on the 52-km-long MCD-1 "Odintsovo - Lobnya" and the 80-km-long MCD-2 "Nakhabino - Podolsk."
Two more surface metro diameters are currently under construction: MCD-3 Zelenograd-Ramenskoye and MCD-4 Aprelevka-Zheleznodorozhny. Two other major projects, MCD-3 and MCD-4, are scheduled for completion in 2023.
According to Sergei Sobyanin, the corridors of these diameters extend for 171 kilometers, with 80 stations. As the mayor clarified, 32 stations will serve as hubs where passengers can conveniently transfer to other modes of transport.
According to the project, the MCD-3 will be 85 km long. The line will connect 41 stations. At least 14 of them will provide convenient transfers to the metro, the Moscow Central Circle, and commuter rail lines. For residents of the capital and the Moscow region, the standard travel time is guaranteed to be halved.
MCD-4 will be 86 km long. It will eventually include 39 stations. Passengers will be able to transfer to the metro, the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), and commuter rail at 18 of these stations. This diameter will connect several of the capital's largest railway stations (Rizhsky, Kazansky, Kursky, Leningradsky, and others). Travel time savings will be at least 40%.
