Cryptopay

Cryptopay links a cryptocurrency wallet to a standard Visa payment card. The card is available in both physical and virtual formats and is issued as part of the European e-money infrastructure.

The card program is provided by DiPocket UAB, a licensed electronic money institution in Lithuania holding Bank of Lithuania License No. 75. DiPocket is a Visa Principal Member. Cryptopay manages the app and the cryptocurrency component of the product, while the card itself and the e-money are governed by separate card terms and conditions.

The key requirement for obtaining the card is residency in the European Economic Area (EEA). Customers over the age of 18 who are residents of the EEA can apply for a Cryptopay card. A mandatory identity verification process is conducted prior to issuance.

Key terms as of November 2026:

  • payment system: Visa;
  • Virtual and physical cards are available;
  • KYC is required;
  • The card is intended for EEA residents;
  • Virtual card issuance fee: 2 EUR according to the issuer’s current fee schedule;
  • Monthly administrative fee: 0;
  • Purchases in the card’s currency incur no separate fee;
  • Transactions in other currencies: 1.95% fee;
  • ATM cash withdrawals: 2 EUR;
  • No separate inactivity fee after one year according to the current fee schedule;
  • Refunds and card management are available through your Cryptopay account.

A virtual card costs 2 EUR, a physical card costs 7 EUR, and switching from a virtual to a physical card costs 5 EUR. Temporary offers may be available in the Cryptopay app, but the published rate of 2 EUR serves as the standard reference. Additional conversion and cash withdrawal fees apply separately.

The card balance is funded through the Cryptopay ecosystem. Users can hold crypto assets and convert them to fiat currency before transferring funds to the card. The cryptocurrency portion and the card account are legally separate: DiPocket does not provide services involving virtual assets and is responsible only for electronic money and the card.

For the standard verification level, the maximum card balance is 20,000 EUR, and for enhanced verification, it is up to 35,000 EUR. The maximum single purchase can reach 10,000 EUR with standard verification and 35,000 EUR with enhanced due diligence. Limits may be reduced on a case-by-case basis depending on the risk profile.

If a purchase is made in a currency other than the card’s currency, Visa performs the conversion and applies an additional 1.95% fee. Therefore, for regular expenses, it is more cost-effective to choose a card currency that matches your primary payment currency whenever possible.

Cryptopay can be used in brick-and-mortar stores, online, and at ATMs, subject to the card program’s terms and conditions. The virtual card is primarily intended for online payments, where a physical card is not required.

For the Russian audience, the key point is not Visa support itself, but the eligibility to register. The card is intended for EEA residents. A Russian passport, combined with legal residency in an eligible European country, does not in itself preclude registration, but a full identity and address verification process will be required. A user residing in Russia without the appropriate EEA status does not meet the program’s basic requirement.

Cryptopay does not guarantee that a specific merchant will accept the card. The decision depends on Visa, the acquiring bank, the country where the account is held, and the merchant’s anti-fraud policy.

Any unused e-money balance can be refunded to the cardholder’s bank account via the DiPocket procedure. Within the first 12 months after the card is closed, provided that SEPA currency and territorial conditions are met, no separate fee applies to such a refund; however, fees may apply later or for international transfers. Additionally, the fee schedule specifies a separate charge of 35 EUR for a rejected transaction dispute. This is not a fee for a standard rejected payment, but rather a charge for the specific chargeback procedure.

Editor’s Opinion

Cryptopay has a more transparent legal model than many intermediary cards: it features a regulated European e-money issuer, Visa, and publicly available card terms and conditions. Strengths include no monthly administrative fee, high spending limits, and seamless integration with a cryptocurrency wallet. The main barrier for the Russian audience is the requirement for EEA residency, so the product cannot be compared to cards issued from Russia via the SBP. Another significant cost is the 1.95% fee when paying in a currency other than the card’s currency. For someone who legally resides in the EEA and already uses Cryptopay, the virtual Visa card is a convenient addition to their wallet.
