Federation Tower West MFC

The smaller of the two skyscrapers of the Federation IFC, the West Tower, is a luxury real estate property with a height of 242.4 m. The building houses offices of various sizes and platinum apartments. The complex, which grew up on the 13th plot of the Moscow International Business Center, received the address Presnenskaya Embankment, 12 and today is one of the main colors of the Moscow-City business district.

History of construction

A stellar team of specialists worked on the design of the building and the creation of engineering structures. The main architects of the project were S. Tchoban from the SPEECH architectural bureau and P. Shveger. The construction of the high-rise building was carried out by specialists from the leading American company Thornton Tomassetti.

Initially, the "West" tower was listed as Tower B. It received its name after a competition in 2006. During construction, the skyscraper project underwent changes. According to the initial project, the building was supposed to be twice as low as "East", but in pursuit of investors' interests, the height of "West" was increased.

Initially, the site was owned by the Mirax Group, later renamed Potok. The project was completed by ZAO Federation Tower, formed after one of the founders of the Mirax Group left the business. The developer of the project was AEON Corporation. The Chinese companies CSCEC and YUANDA also took direct part in the construction of the tower, which allowed the construction of the Federation MFC to be considered a flagship project of Russian-Chinese construction.

The construction progress was carefully monitored by a group of expert organizations, including research institutes of concrete and iron, construction physics, metal structures, Mosgosstroynadzor and Turner Construction Company.

As a result, “Zapad” was put into operation in 2008, and the management and operation of the building is now handled by the Federation Group Management Company.

Features of the construction of the West Tower

The skyscraper has 3 sides. It is built using monolithic construction technology on a powerful foundation. One of its main structural elements is the hexagonal core. Its construction has always been 1–2 levels ahead of the floors. Every 25–30th floor of the building is allocated for outrigger floors, increasing its overall stability.

Innovative technologies and materials were used in the construction of "Zapad". It became the embodiment of all the best that the construction industry could offer. The building has high energy efficiency, a lot of effort was made to ensure the safety of residents and workers of the complex, so it fully complies with the strictest world standards. It has:

• independent water sources;

• argon mirror glass units that ensure a stable comfortable temperature inside is maintained;

• a hidden system for operating facades, thanks to which their maintenance is carried out quickly and does not cause inconvenience to residents and office workers;

• fire zones;

• modern ventilation system;

• central air conditioning system with individual control over the microclimate of each room;

• independent power sources;

• systems for monitoring the condition of engineering equipment;

• smart building management system (BMS).

In the "West" there are 11 paired elevators and 6 high-speed elevators with a speed of 8 m/s manufactured by ThyssenKrupp and Schindler. Premium stone panels with progressively decreasing width were used for the facade design.

West Tower today

The skyscraper has 63 above-ground and 5 underground floors. It is connected by underground passages to the Central Core of Moscow City and the northern exit, thanks to which you can quickly get to almost any part of the business district.

The 242-meter tower houses offices and platinum apartments, screaming about the high social status of their owners. One of the largest owners and residents of "Zapad" is VTB, which has established its headquarters here. Also located in "Zapad":

• the highest restaurant in Europe, Sixty;

• Fitness club with the highest swimming pool Wellness Club Nebo.

Other tenants of office premises are actively developing companies of medium and small size. The advantageous neighborhood and prestige of the area, the presence of everything needed for successful business attract new tenants and investors to "Zapad". For the comfort of doing business, there is a conference hall, a banquet hall, catering, office spaces of different sizes and developed infrastructure, most of which is concentrated in the stylobate part of the MFC "Federation". This is:

• a variety of shops, including famous international brands;

• coffee shops, cafes and elite restaurants;

• ATMs;

• pharmacies;

• dental clinics;

• fitness club;

The building's underground floors house a multi-level parking lot for 874 cars, and there is a guest parking lot for the building's guests. On the 54th floor there is an observation deck with a breathtaking view of the capital.

The entire complex is under 24-hour video surveillance. It has a security service responsible for maintaining order inside the building and the peace of its residents.

Interesting facts and features

The West Tower has received many honorary awards and prizes. It was chosen as the main background for the filming of the sensational movie Black Lightning, where it was called the Diamond Tower. According to the plot of the movie, a powerful drilling rig was located here, although in reality the filming of this scene took place at another site.

In 2009, it won the FIABCI Prix d'Exellence world competition in the Office Real Estate category.

Until 2010, "Zapad" held the title of the skyscraper with the world's tallest electronic clock. This achievement was included in the Guinness Book of Records.

The main decoration of the Federation IFC was supposed to be a 400-meter spire located between two skyscrapers and connecting them with passages at different heights. It was even half built, but without explaining the reasons, the developer announced the dismantling of the Federation spire, which was carried out.
