The “Sofia” shield has completed 2.52 km of the right-hand tunnel section between the “SberCity” and “Novorizhskaya” stations. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on October 3, 2026, that tunneling on the Rublevo-Arkhangelskaya Metro line had been completed.
Back in August, the tunnel boring machine had already covered more than two kilometers. Now the entire right-hand tunnel has been completed. About 50 meters of the route were laid beneath the bed of the Moskva River; the maximum excavation depth was 25 meters. The tunnel encountered clay, water-bearing limestone, and water-saturated sand along the way.
On the same section, the “Alexandra” tunnel boring machine continues to excavate the 2.54-kilometer-long left tunnel. At the same time, the “Olesya” tunnel boring machine has begun work: from the future “Novorizhskoye” electric depot, it will travel more than 1 km to the station of the same name at a depth of up to 35 m.
According to the mayor’s estimates, “SberCity” is nearly 60% complete, and “Novorizhskaya” is more than 40% complete. For “Moscow City,” this marks the next phase in expanding transportation links to the business district. The first section of the line, from “Delovoy Tsentr” to “General Karbyshev Boulevard,” is already in operation. The city plans to open the extension to “Novorizhskaya” in 2027.
